Swimming for competition, fitness, fun, relaxation and companionship

Yarrawonga Mulwala Swimming Club welcomes all individuals and families interested in swimming, at all levels and all ages.

Returning swimmers will start in the squad from the previous season.

If you are a new swimmer, you will need to attend one of the evening sessions to be assessed and allocated to a squad.

Squad Levels, Coach and Criteria for Entry

JUNIOR SQUAD : COACHED BY GEORGIE THOMAS and 

Swimmers in this squad will be allocated 1 or 2 session/s per week.

All swimmers are encouraged to increase their swimming ability by accessing any swimming lessons offered by YMCA or alternative providers.

Aims:

  • Emphasize skill and development in ALL four competitive swimming strokes
  • Concentrate on correct technique

Expectations:

  • Attend allocated lesson as advised by coach
  • Smile all the time

Criteria for entry: 

  • Able to swim 25m Free & Back consistently with good form
  • Demonstrate a good streamline

DEVELOPMENT SQUAD 1: COACHED BY JOCELYN CAMERON and HUGH MULLINS

Aims:

  • Develop and fine tune skills
  • Increase physical fitness
  • Programs are structured for gradual progression and controlled development through to Development Squad 2

Expectations:

  • Attend a minimum of 2 sessions per week
  • Smile all the time

Criteria:    

  • Able to swim 25m Free, Back & Breast with good form
  • Demonstrate a good streamline

DEVELOPMENT SQUAD 2: COACHED BY KEVIN WHITE 

Aims:

  • Provide stroke correction so that  swimmer's style is correct before the training workload is increased and so that bad habits do not have to be corrected during heavier training
  • Start building the workload in the higher levels of the squad
  • Gain experience in local competition and work towards achieving State Country age qualifying times.

Expectations:     

  • Attend a minimum of 3 sessions per week
  • Compete at the meets nominated by the coach
  • Smile

Criteria:            

  • Able to demonstrate good Dive, Turns and Finishes
  • Able to swim 50m Free, Back, Breast with good form
  • Perform recognizable Butterfly
  • Able to swim 100m with good technique of either Free, Back or Breast
  • Correct lane etiquette (spacing, letting others finish on the wall etc)
  • 6 x 50m Free on 1.30 min

PERFORMANCE SQUAD: COACHED BY LYNDON HART

Aims:    

  • Increase level of training intensity and workload
  • Compete successfully at State Level in both Age and Open events

 Expectations:   

  • Attend a minimum of 4 sessions per week
  • Compete at the meets nominated by the coaches
  • Keep smiling

Criteria:

  • Country qualifying in one stroke or qualifying be realistically achieved in one season
